About

Take Childbirth Back is an online service built to support women in pursuing a better birth experience.

For too long women have been indoctrinated with the idea that we are incapable of what we were built to do. For too long we have submitted our bodies, our privacy, our sensuality, and our children to someone else. Worse yet, an establishment whose facilitators’ primary concern is protecting their own livelihood and loved ones. And rightly so. I can not begrudge them that. Though I can and do begrudge those who assume control and ownership of it. Birth does not belong to doctors or midwives or hospitals or insurance companies.

Good doctors and midwives know that the system is wrong and is not in women’s and babies’ best interests. Good obstetricians and midwives know that education and empowerment of the patient is what leads to the best results. Good OB’s and midwives know as well as moms do that working with the natural order is the most efficient and safe approach.

Unfortunately there are too many so-called caregivers who have forgotten that they don’t own birth.

The Take Childbirth Back logo is the Japanese symbol for the word “yin”. You may know it as half of the “yin and yang”. While yang is a masculine quality associated with light, heat, and being exposed, yin represents things feminine, earthy, dark, moist, and hidden.

Birth belongs to women. It’s time we took it back.

Me
I'm Jeannie.

I've been advocating for healthy birth since 2001 when I had my first empowered birth experience, the unassisted waterbirth of my second child. Unassisted birth may not be best for you, but empowered birth is. I'll help get you there.

Two to three times a week I will be publishing content on a wide range of topics surrounding the birth of our children: from conception and pregnancy to birth and postpartum.

I am a holistic, natural health advocate who also respects doctors and utilizes them at will.

I am a mother of 3 who has done much study without formal medical training surrounding the topic of birth, and it is certainly my passion. As such my convictions are strong. I do not require you to agree with everything I say and encourage you to do your own research and make the decision that will enable you to have the best birth experience possible.

Please let me know how I can help you on your journey. You may email me at jeannie [AT] Take Childbirth Back [DOT] com.
